restricting private mail for unvarified accounts

last night another member of my fanclub logged into the site, the very well thought out name of "sugarbaby sucks", and logged straight into private mail, one would only imagine, to send private messages. I was online at the time so put said user on ignore so if it was logging in to mail me its efforts were futile I'm afraid. However, had i not been logged in, or if that user was targetting other users with abusive mail messages, it could happily do so even though its account would not yet have been varified. so my suggestion is, as well as not being able to send quicknotes or post to the boards, could new users also be prevented from sending private mail until such accounts are varified by a cl/admin? that way another loophole would be closed and users would not be able to create one off accounts purely to abuse other users. after all, I wouldn't imagine a cl would varify an account with such a name?

yes, I think SB is really on to it here! It should definitely be seriously thought about as an action soon! I think more and more people are getting disgruntled!

I've noticed that it seems to be in particular on Friday - Saturday and/or Sunday evenings when the most of these offenses seem to come to be. I suppose he/she has nothing better to do... It would seem these need to be times when admin. are especially on the look-out for these "hackers/problem makers." Also there was a "ceasure" person and a "blind person prick" person who first logged on last night as well SB... ALL of these names need certainly NOT to be verified as well. And the one was taking the measures to crash jaws if I am not mistaken from what I gathered from reading quick notes. I do not have the jaws program so I personally can not say one way or the other. I'm begining to wonder if It isn't someone connected with this site. After all, who else, would verify such an infantile name

yeh, even though chris n fixed it so they can not send private qn's with the user name with the horrific word in it, they sent me pms with it. not smart. definitely need to stop unvarified accounts from sending private mail please.

well i'm not sure if this has been sorted or not yet but there was a move afoot last night to completely restrict access to knew members until there accounts had been verified. this was due to the fact that somebody last night kept creating knew accounts with variations of the ceasure word to crash peoples jaws. the idea now is that these people won't be able to log in at all until verification!

as i say i don't know whether this has happened or not but i'm sure that a CL or admin will be along soon to let everybody know exactly what's happening!

ok well firstly, the account doesn't have to be varified, well not at the moment, in order for someone to send PM's, so no one would see the user name until it logged in. once the CL's saw it, they would of course, disable it, but by then the damage would possibly already have been done and private messages could be in the mail boxes of very zoner on the site. so that doesn't mean that it has to be someone to do with the site.

Ok, here's the deal. Unverified accounts can't send quicknotes, can't send private mail on the zone, can't post to the boards, and can't send email to zone members through the zone. I'm trying to find a balance between providing useful services until verification and restricting accounts so they can't do anything unpleasant. Currently they can read profiles, play games, quizzes, things like that. Suggestions welcomed.

hi Chris N.

the only floor in that system is if somebody comes back and does what they were doing the other night. namely recreate ceasure accounts because everytime they log in it shows up as a quick note and of course there name sits in the log in list as well!

Would it be possible perhaps to have new members signing in invisibly until there accounts had been verified? that way even if they do create new accounts that are clearly intended to disrupt the use of the zone for existing users, it won't work because at no time will we be exposed to there names!

i realise of course that this is harsh on any genuine new members but unfortunately there are people out there who are deliberately abusing the current system with the soul purpose of irritating the hell out of existing members, and a system like this would stop this sort of abuse!

Dan.

this has also been done. You will no longer see unverified users signing into the zone. You will not be able to see them sign in until they're verified. Cause we're just cool like that!

cool. I'm glad you're doing this. because of our little beeping friend, I had to restart jfw a few times since I had it set up for the singular form of the word. also, I found out that seezure is latin for to not work, and it's rather ironic that jfw crashed on me last night, but the really annoy8ing thing was that I got a p m from this person saying fuck you in the subject line. let's just say that that, was, very, freaking, stupid, but I could not do anythng about it accept delete the message, since the count in question was allready disabled, or at least, I think it was.
Oh and I'm sorry about the language here folks.
